HOW TO HELP THE OLD STELMUZE OAK TREE

After the deterioration of the condition of the Stelmuze oak, the State Service of Protected Areas turned to specialists for help, so that experienced arborists could assess the condition of the old tree and offer solutions on how to help it.

It is clear that some of the branch supports installed a few years ago do not fully perform their functions, the supports and their fixings need to be adjusted. We are also waiting for the arborist's opinion on what other measures should be taken to extend the old man's life.

The Stelmuze oak tree is the most famous natural monument in Lithuania. It is believed to be the oldest oak in Lithuania and one of the oldest, perhaps even the third oldest in Europe. Experts guess that the tree could be about 1500 years old.

The girth of the oak at a height of 1.3 m is more than 9.5 meters, at the roots - as much as 13 meters. The old man stretches 19 meters to the top.
