EXCLUSIVE VALUE OF THE REGIONAL PARK

The regional park is characterised by unique natural and cultural objects with the most important being the Green lakes (Žaliųjų ežerų) complex, the Verkiai manor ensem ble, and the Calvary Road of the Cross. The tunnel valleys of the Green Lakes are especially long and deep. The largest and deepest of all is the Balsys (Crusaders’) Lake. The Riešė Stream is a rare phenomenon in Lithuania be cause of branching into two streams. There are habitats of rare plant, fungi, and animal species in the park. The unique ensemble of the Verkiai Palace and Park features the Classicist style. The Calvary Road of the Cross dating back to the 15th c. precisely replicates the scenario of the Jerusalem Road of the Cross.
