EXCLUSIVE VALUE OF THE REGIONAL PARK
The identity of the landscape in this regional park has been formed by the layers of the Mesozoic Jurassic (150-200 million years) and morainic Pleistocene formations (red crags) on the slopes of the Venta valley. Especially valuable geological formations from the Jurassic period of dinosaurs are protected in the park. The most famous is the Papilė Jurassic outcrop with 160 million years old se diments and fossils. Dionizas Poška was probably the first one who attempted to study it. Papilė is also famous for its fifteen trunk linden tree. It was also the hometown of the famous educator, historian and writer Simonas Daukantas. A unique wooden pharmacy (museum) in Viekšniai is still open to the visitors. Water mills are extree mely characteristic to this region. Twelve species of beetles not found anywhere else in Lithuania have been found in this region.
