EXCLUSIVE VALUE OF THE REGIONAL PARK

This park has been established to protect the most picturesque fragment of the landscape which has formed in the junction of the Southern Lithuanian uphill and a sandy plateau. Here is one of the most distinctive system of intersecting tunnel valleys in the Dzūnai uphill. The park is abundant with lakes and rivers. The small inter-lake area between Šlavantėlis and Liūnelis Lakes can boast the unthinkable diversity of rare species and communities. Here is the one in Lithuania known population of Gymnadenia odoratissima. However, the most important boast of the regional park is the European tree frog (Hyla arborea). The old defensive fortification of Vainežeris is of exceptional significance in Lithua nia, and Veisiejai is a cozy town among the water bodies.
