EXCLUSIVE VALUE OF THE REGIONAL PARK

The landscape of the wide picturesque steep-sloped Nemunas River valley is different here from what we see in the Nemunas Loops Regional Park or the Dzūkija National Park. Wide spaces framed by high steep slopes with valuable fragments of the Nemunas defen sive line from the largest crusade wars of Lithuania in the 13th 15th centuries – Veliuona, Seredžius and other mounds, castles and church towers. The landscape of the Nemunas lower reaches’ valley is decorated by erosional complexes, deep lower reaches of small streams. Abundance of manor sites; diversity of manor parks; the longest and the most vivid in Lithuania Nemunas defensive line fragment; river-street. It is the home of Arvicola terrestris and Neo mys fodiens. Nesting sites of the endangered Sternula albifron.
