Kaunas lagoon regional park

EXCLUSIVE VALUE OF THE REGIONAL PARK

It is a regional park with the largest artificial water body in Lithuania (460 million cubic metres and 63.5 sq. km or abo ut 0.1% of the country’s territory), which is characterized by a unique system of flooded wide Nemunas meanders which has retained the high-steeped shoreline (20-60 metres, and as much as 40 metres), which forms clear open and semi-en closed visual landscape spaces. Unique history and pictu resque lanscape which is still being shaped by the waters of Kaunas Lagoon. Numerous exposures, flooded river valleys which turned into fjords, areas of oxbow lakes, and ornate Pažaislis church towers. Especially valuable is the Arlaviškės juniper valley on a steep Kaunas Lagoon slope. In this Regi onal park, there is one in Lithuania Dubrava arboretum, the largest in Lithuania folk museum, and a growing site of the Dianthus armeria.
