On the initiative of the State Service for Protected Areas, a new nature school opened its doors in the Curonian Spit National Park in Nida. This is already the ninth nature school in the protected areas. The goal of every nature school is to educate the public about the importance of protected areas, landscapes, and biodiversity - what and how it should be protected.

This year marks an important event for nature conservation - the 30th anniversary of regional parks. It is unique that on 24 September, 1992, by one decision of the Supreme Council, all regional parks in Lithuania were established - the most beautiful and valuable territories of our land.

In the surroundings of the Žuvintas lake, the nests of white storks are almost empty, but there are plenty of storks in the meadows and fields. Storks-parents teach their chicks how to glide before the long journey to warmer lands. At the end of August, the storks will have already flown away.

In the pools of the Lithuanian Maritime Museum, pups of Baltic gray seals brought weak and sick from the sea in the spring are recovering fast. As many as 22 of them were found this year, 3 of them were unfortunately not saved by the museum specialists.

Not only the exceptional value of protected areas, natural and cultural heritage values are clearly listed here, but also a lot of additional information related to visiting.

The first protected area in Lithuania - Žuvintas Reserve - celebrates its 85th anniversary, as it was established in 1937 on the initiative of Professor Tadas Ivanauskas. At that time, the protection of Lake Žuvintas began, which is distinguished by an extremely rich and diverse world of birds.

From today, the National Center for Protected Areas and the Visitor Centers of the Directorates of Protected Areas will provide free guided tours and independent visits to the citizens of the Republic of Ukraine.

The administration of Kaunas Lagoon Regional Park has started to carry out the inventory of wintering bats in the territories designated for the protection of these mammals, mainly in the forts of Kaunas Fortress. These forts have long been recognized as one of the most important bat wintering grounds in Lithuania and are included in the Natura 2000 network of protected areas of international importance.

Today, at the Expo 2020 exhibition in Dubai, the delegation of protected areas presents the values and visitation opportunities of Lithuanian national and regional parks and reserves. Various thematic presentations take place regularly in the Lithuanian pavilion, so this day is dedicated to the protected areas of our country.
